Global ocean thermocline gradient, isothermal layer depth, and other upper ocean parameters calculated from WOD CTD and XBT temperature profiles from 1960-01-01 to 2017-12-31 (NCEI Accession 0173210)

An individual temperature profile was analyzed using the recently developed exponential leap-forward gradient (ELG) method (Chu and Fan, Journal of Oceanography, 2017) to get thermal parameters such as thermocline gradient, isothermal layer depth, isothermal layer heat content per unit mass, SST, and temperature below the isothermal layer. The quality of such analysis was evaluated by the Q-index (Lorbacher et al., Journal of Geophysical Research, 2006), and I-index (Chu and Fan, Journal of Oceanography, 2017). These indices were also presented for each profile. The dataset contains 1,202,061 sets (446,811 from CTD and 755,086 from XBT) of thermal parameters as well as quality indices. Data are in NetCDF format.
