Valley/stream bottom elevations and sediment thickness/grain size measurements for the lower Patapsco River, Maryland, proximal to Bloede Dam from 1986-11-13 to 2021-08-17 (NCEI Accession 0284223)

This data set includes valley and stream bottom elevations for the lower Patapsco River, MD, proximal to the former Bloede Dam (removed in 2018). Elevations were taken at fixed transects upstream and downstream of the dam and at greater density in the former reservoir area. Above average flows in August 2018 made some parts of the channel through the impoundment too deep to survey with the total station, so some data for this survey were collected with a boat-mounted echosounder. The data set also includes qualitative and quantitative sediment texture characterizations at the fixed transects (facies maps and grain size measurements, respectively) and sediment cores taken in the former reservoir to estimate stored sediment thickness and grain size. Data were submitted to NCEI in the format of CSV, KMZ, and PDF files. All pre-2018 spatial data are horizontally referenced to NAD 1983 State Plane Maryland FIPS 1900 in US Survey Feet; vertical: NAVD88, international feet. This includes the file "Approximate limit of stored sediment.kmz". Two exceptions are the files "Left limit lidar elevations (2015).kmz" and "Inferred depths.kmz" for which the vertical is NAVD88, US Survey Feet. For all spatial data collected in 2018 and after, the horizontal reference is NAD 1983 (2011) State Plane Maryland FIPS 1900, US Survey Feet, and the vertical is NAVD88, international feet. To access aerial imagery supporting SfM photogrammetry associated with this project, please see the Data_README file for the link to a separate NCEI accession.
