Zilker Vision Plan
Published by data.austintexas.gov
Description
The Zilker Metropolitan Park Vision Plan was a long-term planning initiative by the Austin Parks and Recreation Department to guide the restoration and future development of Zilker Park. The plan emphasized ecological restoration, improved accessibility, and reduced reliance on personal vehicles through enhanced pedestrian, bicycle, and shuttle transit options. Key proposals included removing surface parking to restore green space, constructing parking structures, and relocating the Zilker Hillside Theater. After extensive community engagement, the planning process was suspended in August 2023 following opposition from Austin City Council members. Although the plan was halted, the draft and related materials remain available for public reference.
